KOCHI, JULY 31. The Minister for Water Resources, T. M. Jacob, assured special schools and teachers all help from the State Government. He was addressing the concluding session of a two-day training programme for special schoolteachers at the YMCA here on Saturday. The Minister lauded the efforts of the teachers who make great sacrifices to take care of the physically and mentally challenged children. By a rough estimate, there are 200 special schools in the State manned by 1,800 teachers who take care of about 15,000 special children. Kurien Joseph, a judge of the Kerala High Court, who delivered the valedictory address, praised the efforts of the special teachers. He lauded their dedication at a time when the teaching profession as a whole had fallen on bad days. Special Olympics The Special Olympics, Bharat, meant to bring out the athletes and sportspersons among the special children in the country, is on a drive to register two lakh athletes under it by the end of next year. Kerala will register 25,000 athletes, said the chairman of Special Olympics, Kerala, J. Oommen, here on Friday. The acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, Cyriac Joseph, inaugurated the training programme on Friday. The President of the Special Olympics, Denzil Keelor, delivered the keynote address.
