Steps to ensure safety of anganawadis

KOCHI, JULY 31. A meeting of the District Development Council held here today decided to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of anganawadis in the district. As many as 532 of the 2,107 anganawadis in the district are not functioning on safe premises. The Social Welfare Department has already submitted a report suggesting the immediacy of repairing the buildings of 41 anganawadis.

BSNL employees at the Boat Jetty Telephone Exchange called off their agitation against the defects of interactive voice response system (IVRS) trunk booking, following an assurance by the authorities to redeploy the employees more effectively and to re-introduce manual trunk booking service.

Mobile phones, cash stolen

Four mobile phones, worth Rs. 30,000, and Rs. 20,000 in cash were stolen from the Nokia showroom near the SRV School here on Friday night. Ernakulam Town Central police has registered a case and investigation is on.

Succumbs

to injuries

K.K. Naseer (30), Kavumparambil House, Chittethukara, Kakkanad succumbed to injuries he sustained in a motor accident. He was admitted to the Medical Trust Hospital here after the motorbike he was riding was hit by a car at Irumpanam bridge on July 27. He died at 11.30 a.m. today.

Victory for UDF

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has made gains in the cooperative union elections in the district. The UDF won four of the seven unions where elections were held today. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won two circles, while it was a tie at Kothamangalam circle cooperative union.

B.Tech. results

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has published the results of the B.Tech. final supplementary examinations. The results are available at the university website, www.cusat.ac.in, said a press release here today.
