HYDERABAD, JULY 31. The State council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the All-India Trade Union Congress today condoled the death of veteran Communist leader and Parliamentarian, Hiren Mukherjee. In condolence messages, N.R. Dasari, member of the CPI national executive, described him as an "outstanding" Communist veteran and one of the "tallest intellectual" personalities. He was a professor in Andhra University and was the first awardee of the Kambhampati Senior gold medal. P. Nageswara Rao, general secretary, AITUC State unit, said Mukherjee was an excellent orator, writer of many memorable books and trade unionist. He was awarded the Padma Bhooshan and Padma Vibhushan. The MP and Secretary of the State Council of the Communist Party of India, S. Sudhakar Reddy, today paid homage to Hiren Mukherjee. In a message, Mr. Reddy offered condolences to Mukherjee's family. He said Hiren Mukherjee, as president of the Indian People's Theatre Association, had inspired artistes to conduct impressive cultural activities in protest of imperialism. Mr. Reddy also condoled the deaths of Phani Bora, a top leader of the undivided Communist movement of the North-East, and Allu Ramalingaiah, actor and comedian.
