THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 31. The First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the suicide of the engineering student, Rajani S. Anand, was submitted by the Poojappura police to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here today. The FIR has named the Director, Scheduled Caste Development, Poojappura, as the first accused, the Section Officer handling the fees of students in the Directorate of SC Development, the Manager of the Poozhanad branch of the Indian Overseas Bank, the Principal, College of Engineering run by the IHRDE, Adoor and the Superintendent of the General Hospital as the second, third, fourth and fifth accused respectively. The police have filed murder charges against the first four accused named in the FIR for being directly involved and against the Superintendent of the General Hospital for "destroying evidence". The FIR has been filed as per Section 120 (B), 201, 302, 304 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. The Niyama Sahaya Vedi chairman, Stephen Rozario, had filed a criminal petition in the court on July 29, seeking framing of murder charges against these persons. Based on the petition, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate had directed the Poojappura police to conduct an investigation and file an FIR.
