This Day That Age
The first meeting of representatives of the three countries - India, Poland and Canada - who will constitute the Indo-China Supervisory Control Commission, held in New Delhi on August 1, decided to send a joint advance party of about a dozen persons, both civil and military, to the Indo-Chinese States of Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos this week. The meeting was addressed by Prime Minister Nehru on behalf of India, by Mr. Escott Reid on behalf of Canada and Mr. Grudzinski, on behalf of Poland. The advance party will survey the local conditions on the spot and report as quickly as possible on the logistic support and other facilities that may be available locally and the other arrangements that would be necessary to be made to enable the Commission to commence functioning. The ceasefire becomes effective in different parts of Indo-China on different dates. A spokesman of the Government of India explained that an answer to the question whether the Geneva conference had laid down any rigid dates for the commencement of the work of the Commission would be available in two or three days.
