Punalur incident: Minister clarifies

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 1. The Minister for Health, Kadavoor Sivadasan, has described as "false and baseless", the interpretation made by P.S. Supal, MLA, referring to the violent incident that occurred at Punalur yesterday.

It was not true that the incident was the fallout of Mr. Supal, who is the local MLA, not having been invited to the functions at which the Minister was also present, Mr. Sivadasan said in a statement here today.

In fact there were three functions, all of equal importance and one of them, the inauguration of the utility service in the Government hospital, was to be done by Mr. Supal. The Minister and the local MP were to inaugurate each of the other two functions.

There was no denying the fact that the MLA had been given equal importance as that of the Minister and the MP. Despite having been aware of this, it was Mr. Supal who created a scene at the venue and behaved in a manner unbecoming of an elected representative of the people, Mr. Sivadasan alleged. Unware of what had actually transpired at the venue, party workers owing allegiance to Mr. Supal created a chaotic situation there.

The minister has asked Mr. Supal to come out with the truth and also to co-operate with the Government in its efforts at providing better health care to the people of his constituency.
