Clouds, rain likely

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, AUG. 1.AUG. 1.AUG 1. The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or thundershower in some areas for the Capital on Monday.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Sunday was 36.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 28.2 degrees Celsius. A rainfall of 0.6 mm was also recorded. Palam recorded a maximum of 36.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.5 degree Celsius. The maximum humidity recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was the same at 83 per cent, while the minimum was 50 and 48 per cent respectively.

Cop held

for bribe

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, AUG. 1.AUG. 1.AUG 1. A Delhi police constable, who had allegedly demanded Rs. 5,000 as bribe from a man to release his brother, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the State Government on July 30.

The Branch received a complaint from Jai Bhagwan alleging that Constable Krishan Chander of Nangloi police station was demanding Rs. 5,000 for releasing his brother against whom a case had been registered on July 28. He released Jai Bhagwan only after getting Rs. 4,000 from the complainant. The constable soon started demanding rest of the money.

Acting on the complaint, the Branch sleuths laid a trap and arrested Chander when he was accepting Rs. 1,000 from Jai Bhagwan. Further investigations are on.

Gangster arrested

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, AUG. 1.AUG. 1.AUG 1. An alleged member of Kishan Pehalwan gang was arrested at Rangpuri following a brief encounter with the South-West Delhi police on July 30. A country-made firearm was recovered from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off that a member of Kishan Pehalwan gang would come to Vishal Mega Mart showroom at Rangpuri, Sub-Inspector Balkrishan Badola and others laid a trap near the showroom. Around 7-15 p.m., the team spotted the suspect and asked him to surrender. However, the accused opened fire following which Sub-Inspector Badola fired in retaliation and overpowered him. During interrogation, he identified himself as Anil and revealed that he worked for Kishan Pehalwan and extorted money from businessmen at his instance. The police said the firearm recovered from him had been supplied by a cable mafiaman named Leelu.
