Focus on teenage problems

KOCHI, AUG. 1. The problems and issues faced by the adolescents are not addressed properly, said the Ernakulam District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish. Making the inaugural address of the Teenage Day and World Breast Feeding Week celebrations organised by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) and the Rotary Clubs of District 3200 here on Sunday, Mr. Hanish said that the adolescents are forced to occupy a no-man's land as they were considered neither children nor adults. He said that the failure in rising up to the parents' expectations was becoming the major stress factor affecting the teenagers. Inaugurating the Family Life Education workshop and the Adolescent Care District Project of the Rotary Club, C.M. Aboobacker, former State president of the IAP, said the mental and physical problems of the adolescents often went unnoticed. The Adolescent Card of the IAP was introduced by Mr. Hanish with the IAP State secretary, M.A. Mathew, accepting it. The State CBSE Schools Association president, T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, was among those who spoke.

Plea to begin road work

The Mulavukadu local committee of the CPI(M) will hold a dharna at the Bolghatty Bridge Junction on Monday demanding that the Goshree Islands Development Authority take up the work of broadening the roads on the Island. A press release from the party committee said that with the inauguration of the Goshree bridges, travel had become hard for the islanders without the roads being broadened to accommodate the rush of traffic. The dharna will be inaugurated by the Mayor, C.M. Dinesh Mani.

Review of loan policies sought

The All India Bank Customers' Association has demanded that the banks take a second look at the policies governing their loan advances. The banks should also examine its loan recovery mechanism so that the banks were more useful to ordinary people, said a press release from the Association here today.
