Letters to the Editor
Sir, Last week the nation quietly celebrated Vijay Divas, marking the 4th anniversary of the Kargil war. In this war we lost 400 officers and men and over 800 soldiers were partially or permanently disabled. However, the media coverage of the event was inadequate. The people of this country need to understand that we owe a lot to the average Indian soldier who works in places such as Siachen, the highest and coldest battlefield in the world. It is disturbing to see the so-called educated class celebrating `Valentine Day' and being indifferent to events such as Vijay Divas. There is nothing wrong in celebrating `Valentine Day', but we certainly cannot be indifferent to the average Indian soldier.
Prabhash Ranjan,
