Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article on Kuruvila Jacob (Aug. 1), whose birth centenary is to be celebrated on August 3. I was a student of the Madras Christian College High School in the early 1940s when it was located opposite the Madras High Court. Kuruvila Jacob was our headmaster. Apart from his holistic view of education, he was a visionary with so many innovative ideas. My cousin, who was also his student, narrated an instance of the great man's understanding of the young, and the readiness with which he forgave their lapses. On a working day my cousin and his friend, after skipping thier classes, were walking along Mount Road towards the Globe theatre to see a movie. Kuruvila Jacob, who happened to be driving along the same route, stopped his car and gently admonished them for not attending their classes. He then asked them to get into his car and after dropping them at the Globe, went on his way!
