Letters to the Editor
Sir, Gopal Gandhi's tribute to Hiren Mukherjee, " A communist rishi' (Aug. 2.) was excellent. Hiren babu, who worked selflessly for the poor and the downtrodden, was truly the voice of the voiceless. Who else could have stirred the Lok Sabha with the speech: "Does the Hon'ble Prime Minister know that men vie with dogs in the streets of our cities for leavings from the rich man's table?"
K. Vasu,
* * * Sir, I recall a lecture Hiren Mukherjee delivered at St. Stephen's College, Delhi in the early 1960s. He said: "Money talks and stops people from talking." A better summing up of the role of money power in society will be difficult to find.
L.S. Vishwanath,
