One-sided encounters

CHENNAI, AUG. 2. Three one-sided encounters clearly showed the yawning gap in standard among the club teams in the country on the second day of the IOB-ABC Magnolia Trophy all-India basketball tournament at Montfort indoor stadium, Santhome, here on Monday.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Dehradun, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai and Western Railway, Mumbai, shut out their rivals comfortably to move closer to the knock-out stage.

ONGC outplayed a hapless Artillery Centre, 83-48, Western Railway overran Chennai Customs 71-45 in Group A and IOB outclassed Kerala State Electricity Board, Thiruvananthapuram, 79-63.in Group C.

Late last night, Signal beat KSEB 69-55 and Indian Army downed South Central Railway 78-56.

The results:

ONGC 83 (Dinesh Kumar 13, Suresh Kumar 14, Sridhar 12, Shabeer Ahmed 18) bt Artillery 48 (Pradeep 10, Sukhbir Singh 12).

IOB 79 (Shivashnakar 10, Chandrasekhar 19, A.D. Sugavaneshwaran 18) bt KSEB 63 (Bobi Mathew 15, Ramesh 18).

Western Railway 71 (Rajendra Singh 15, Trideep Singh 20, Riyazudeen 27) bt Customs 45 (Saravanan 12, Madhusudhanan 14).

Signal 69 (Dalit Kumar 17, A. Khan 15, Pramod 12) beat KSEB 55 (Bobit Mathew 27, Aju Jacob 10).

Indian Army 78 (Subash 14, Peter John 14, Phool Singh 12) beat SCR-Secunderabad 56 (Vinay 12, Islauddin 10, Lizu 10).
