This Day That Age
K-2 (Godwin Austen), world's second highest peak, has been conquered. The leader of the victorious Italian expedition, in a message from Lahore on August 3, said that the conqueror set his foot on the 28,250-ft. high mountain peak on July 31. The peak has defied a number of previous attempts, the last one being by the Americans who had to retreat last year due to bad weather when victory was almost in sight.
