BIJAPUR, AUG. 3. A large number of villagers, most of them women, on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Babaleshwar Gram Panchayat office in support of their demand that water supply through tankers be resumed at their habitation. They blocked the office entrance for almost five hours. They said though water scarcity was acute the administration had suddenly withdrawn water supply being made through tankers. It forced the villagers to go to far away places to fetch water. The president of the gram panchayat, Jeejabai Immanada, the panchayat vice-president, Dundappa Ullagaddi, a zilla panchayat member from the area, Chennamma Kokatnur, the president of Babaleshwar Taluk Horata Samiti, V.S. Patil, and its secretary, Ashok Thimshetti, and members of self-help groups participated.
