HYDERABAD, AUG. 3. Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nuclear Fuel Complex, C. Ganguly, has urged doctors and hospitals to switch over to nuclear energy for the disposal of medical waste. He called upon doctors to form a consortium so that sterilisation facility could be established here by using nuclear energy and the Central Government was ready to offer its assistance for it.
Importance stressed
Dr. Ganguly was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology here on Tuesday, following his appointment as head of NFC, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria. He said nuclear energy was used to detect cancer, sterilisation of medical surgeries and hospital waste. The day was not far of when hydrogen-based cars would hit the roads, which can bring down pollution levels drastically. Considering that the availability of drinking water is a concern, he said the country has 7,600 km of coastline and seawater could help in generation of cheap electricity, desalination of water to pave for potable water and also in the production of hydrogen.
Ganguly feted
Earlier, D.Nageswar Reddy of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology complimented Dr. Ganguly on his appointment to the IAEA.
