Steel majors hike prices

NEW DELHI, AUG. 3. Notwithstanding efforts to control the spiralling prices, private steel manufacturers today hiked the prices by up to Rs. 1,000 a tonne.

Essar steel raised the prices of hot rolled (HR) coils by Rs. 500-Rs. 1,000 depending on the grade of the commodity.

Tata Steel has also increased the prices by Rs. 300-Rs. 500 a tonne, company officials said. Sources said Jindal Steel was following suit.
