Patients develop infection after surgery
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
AUG. 3.
The Ophthalmology Department's operation theatre in the Government General Hospital here has been temporarily closed since Monday following reports of at least four patients developing infection soon after surgery. While patients' relatives complain of carelessness on the part of the doctors concerned and the hospital administration in keeping the operation theatre fully sterilised, doctors attribute it to various factors.
The Hospital Superintendent, S. Rajkumar, and the Deputy Superintendent, C. Hanumantharao, who held a meeting with ophthalmic surgeons today, denied any negligence on the part of the administration. They said that the Ophthalmology Department chief informed them that such infections would occur one in thousand cases.
