Vadeyaraj shines

BANGALORE, AUG. 3. On a day which saw clouds hovering close and left-arm spinner Santosh Vadeyaraj holding a tight leash (four for 33), Matthew Harrison's 59 and skipper Adam Voges' 49 helped the Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence (CBCE)-Australian Cricket Academy muster 170 for seven against the KSCA XI at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday.

The duo's 79-run third-wicket partnership helped the visitors find their feet after seamers Affan Sheriff and B. Akhil snared the openers Tom Plant and Craig Simmons to leave the score tottering at 15 for two. Southpaw Harrison (59, 157b, 7x4) employed the cut and pull with precision while Voges drove with panache in a breezy innings (49, 51b, 6x4, 2x6) that briefly revived the Aussie hopes.

However the visitors lost their hold again as left-arm spinner Santosh Vadeyaraj spun one through Voges' defence. Vadeyaraj bagged three more wickets with his nagging spells while off-spinner Udit Patel lured Matthew Harrison into chipping one to Deepak Chougule at silly-point. The opening day however closed early as evening showers threw a wet blanket.

The scores:

CBCE-Australian Cricket Academy 170 for seven in 68.5 overs (Matthew Harrison 59, Adam Voges 49, Santosh Vadeyaraj four for 33) vs KSCA XI.
