KOLLAM, AUG. 3. The Rajya Sabha Member, N.K. Premachandran, said here today that the higher education sector in the State was in the doldrums and that the State Government was solely responsible for the situation. He was inaugurating a demonstration by the pro-Left students and youth organisations in front of the Taluk Office protesting against the educational policies of the State Government. Mr. Premachandran called upon the Union Government to urgently intervene in the situation. If the Centre fails to intervene, the situation will worsen. The laws on self-financing professional colleges enacted by the various States have no uniformity, he said. Even the Supreme Court verdicts on issues pertaining to the self-financing college vary from State to State. The district secretary of the DYFI, K. Sethumadhavan, presided.
