HYDERABAD, AUG. 3. The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal brought heavy rain to parts of the State on Tuesday, with Koida in Khammam district recording 24 cm of rain in 24 hours. The downpour ended this morning and was attributed to a "vigorous" monsoon. Peddapuram and Kakinada recorded 13 cm and 12 cm. There were rains all over coastal Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari was in spate at Bhadrachalam, rising to 32 ft.
More water for Krishna delta
The spell of rain in the Krishna catchment carries great relief to the State. More rain is expected, which means more water will reach the delta. The Director of the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, J.V.M. Naidu, said the present low pressure area was likely to bring good rainfall across the State, particularly in Telangana and coastal Andhra. The State Met office has forecast more rain for Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnan, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar districts. Visakhapatnam city has been experiencing intermittent showers. Reports said normal life was affected in a number of places, including Vijayawada.
