HYDERABAD, AUG. 3. The Labour Minister, G. Vinod, has announced the "Government's intention" to scrap GO 33 of 2002 of the Labour Department which was issued by the Telugu Desam dispensation requiring the officers of the department to "inspect" factories/industrial units only "once in a year" regarding service conditions of workers, etc. When asked at a press conference here today as what steps were initiated by the Government on the allegation made by the TDP that Sanghi Industries near here employed child labour, the Minister, referring to the GO, said inspections by Government Departments should be regular and not at one point of time.
Regular inspections
He said excise, police, revenue and transport officials would conduct inspections on a regular basis. Moreover, the Minister said when officers from his department were to undertake inspections, they were required to go along with their counterparts from many other departments/agencies such as Industries, Boilers Inspectorate and Pollution Control Board. He insisted that there was no prima facie evidence in the Telugu Desam's allegations but the issue was probed in light of the repetition of the charge.
