NEW DELHI, AUG. 3. Widespread rain continued to lash the northern and western parts of the country today disrupting life in many areas and claiming 30 lives, including that of two children, even as the Army and the Air Force were called out to rescue the marooned people in three villages of Gujarat. Mahad marooned Heavy rain swept parts of Maharashtra affecting road and rail traffic at many places as Mahad town in Raigad district was marooned due to flooding of rivers Savitri and Amba. Twenty-five people have died in south Gujarat since yesterday as normal life came to a standstill in Surat and surrounding areas. PTI Gujarat seeks Army help Manas Das Gupta reports from Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Government has sought the Army's assistance and pressed into service Air Force helicopters to shift the people out of the flood-hit villages in south Gujarat. The Cabinet spokesman and Health Minister, I.K. Jadeja, and the Revenue Minister, Kaushik Patel, said National Highway Eight linking Gujarat with Mumbai had been closed between Vapi and Umbergaon due to overflowing of the Damanganga river. Government had drawn the Centre's attention to the breaches on the newly-constructed bridge on the Damanganga .
