Weather

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 26.1 degrees Celsius and minimum of 23.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity, which 96 per cent in the morning, dropped marginally to 93 per cent in the evening. Rainfall of 59.6 mm was recorded during the day.

Commodity prices

Following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale markets on Tuesday: Groundnut oil - 53.50, palmolein oil - 45.50, sunflower oil - 53.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 31 to 35, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 40 to 45, chillies (refrigerated) - 24 to 28, chillies - 14 to 18, rice (2716) - 13, rice superfine (samba masoori) 14 to 15, rice sona masoori - 15 to 16, black gram (pottu minapappu) - 19 to 25, red gram (kandipappu) - 28.50 to 34.

Power shutdown

Power will be shut down in areas under the Kothapet section from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday and under the Suryaraopet section on Wednesday and Thursday. Chittinagar, Anjeneya vagu st., Edka Mahal Road, Anjeneya vagu hill slopes, Bangaraiah kottu centre, Raavi chettu centre, and part of Gollapalemgattu in Kothapet section will have no power on Wednesday. Areas along Eluru Road from Chuttugunta centre to SRR and CVR College, a part of Masjid st., Mayor st., Kakatiya College Road, Goginenivari st., Milkbooth st., Maruthinagar, Bhagat Singh Nagar, SRR college surrounds and DBK park in Suryaraopet section will have no power on Wednesday and Thursday.

Section 30 in force

The Commissioner of Police, T. Krishna Prasad, has promulgated Section 30 under Cr.PC. banning rallies and public meetings without taking prior permission from the City Police.

Award for artiste

The C. Rama Mohana Rao (AIR) Memorial Award will be presented to the noted stage artiste of mythological plays, Bandi Koteswara Rao, at a programme to be held at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on August 7. Krishna District Collector, Prabhakara Reddy, will give away the award.

Bakery classes

The Sri Sivani Training Institute (SSTI) gave free training to women in making bakery products at a two-day Friendship Day camp. The co-opted member of the Municipal Corporation, P. Gowtham Reddy, and the director of the institute, K. V. Lakshmi, spoke.
