Spell of rain

Forecast: A few spell of rain or thundershowers.

At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 28.5 degree Celsius and the minimum was 24.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 87 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. it was 93 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 0.4 mm. and at 8.30 p.m. it was 25.6 mm.

At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 30.2 degree Celsius and 26.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 81 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. it was 86 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 0.5 mm. and at 8.30 p.m. it was 17.6 mm.

The maximum and minimum temperatures at the Dolphin's Nose were 27.7 degree Celsius and 23.0 degree Celsius. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 90 per cent.

`Anywhere

banking'

The Assistant General Manager of Union Bank of India, M.K. Ravi Varma, on Monday inaugurated the `anywhere banking' facility at its Gopalapatnam branch.

He said that this was the bank's fourth branch in the city to have this facility which included ATM, Internet banking, forex rate availability to customers by e-mail, multiple cheque book and direct transmission of letters of credit.

Yoga camp

The Visakha Yoga Bharati Society will conduct an 11-day free yoga and naturopathy camp for the benefit of those in the age group of 4-24 with vision problems from Wednesday. The participants will be taught yogic eye exercises, cleansing process, meditative techniques and home remedies. Interested persons can ring up 2712166 or 2558219 for details.

Appointed

The joint secretary of the Visakhapatnam Stevedores' Association and director of K. Ramabrahmam and Sons, K.V. Krishna Kumar, has been appointed a trustee of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust representing the stevedoring sector.

Announcing this in a release on Tuesday, the association congratulated him on the appointment and hoped that he would protect the interests of trade.

Painting contest

Pragathi Padham, a sister concern of the Pragathi Institute of Advanced Learning, will organise a district-level painting competition in three categories on August 8. The entry fee is Rs. 30.

The last date for registration is August 6 for the candidates registering through their schools. Other participants can register an hour before the beginning of the competition at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium, according to the institute's director, Shashikala Rao.

School's gesture

Students, staff and management of the Bhashyam school in the city donated Rs.1,01,790 to the Care Hospital towards heart surgeries for children.

The amount was handed over to the hospital on the occasion of the inaugural function of the school's new premises on Monday.
