Temperature

TIRUCHI, AUG. 3. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degree Celsius.

Passports issued

The Regional Passport Office has issued 23, 023 passports during July, according to the Passport Officer, A. Pandurangan.

All eligible applications for fresh passports received till May 28, 2004, have been cleared as on July 31. Applications, seeking renewal, additional booklets and passports for minors, received till July 16 have also been cleared, he said in a press release.

The office received 19,685 applications for fresh, duplicate and renewals of passports during July, he added.

Identity cards

The Collector, V. Pandian, has appealed to the physically handicapped persons to obtain identity cards issued under the single window scheme being implemented in the district.

He said special camps were being held in the District Rehabilitation Centre for issuing medical certificates to the handicapped persons every Friday. Those suffering from orthopaedic handicaps could attend the camps on the first Friday of the month, the visually handicapped on the second Friday, the mentally challenged on the third and the hearing impaired on the fourth Friday. The camps would be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mr.Pandian said.

Grievances redressal forum

A Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum has been formed in the Tiruchi Metro Circle as per the directive of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission. The Superintending Engineer, Tiruchi Electricity Distribution Circle/Metro, will be its chairperson. Consumers could submit their grievances in the prescribed format to the chairperson at the TNEB office at Mannarpuram. The prescribed format will be available in the operations and maintenance section and the sub-divisional and divisional offices of the Metro Circle, according to an official release.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 74.81 feet today. The inflow was 6,226 cusecs, and there was no discharge.
