Advocate association demand

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, AUG. 3. The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association has urged the Central and State Governments to stop the practice of appointing retired judges as commissions and appoint lawyers qualified to be appointed as judges of Supreme Court or High Court to head such commission.

The resolution passed at an extraordinary general body meeting of the association also requested the Governments to amend the relevant laws which reserved the posts of commissions for retired judges so as to make qualified lawyers eligible for the same.

The resolution also urged retired judges to prevent the practice of using the title "Justice" before their names. It requested the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of all States to immediately issue a circular requiring stoppage of the same. The resolution requested the Central and State Governments to frame statutory rules regarding the conduct and remuneration of arbitrators.

The resolution was moved by Vincent Panikulangara at a meeting presided over by the association president, K. Ramkumar.
