Crime watch

Cash taken away at gunpoint

Three motorcycle-borne assailants took away Rs. 50,000 at gunpoint from a petrol bunk located on the Miyapur-Bachupalli road on Tuesday night.

The accused were also wielding knives, the Dindigal police said.

Around 7.30 p.m., they drove straight to Jitender, a worker, in the petrol bunk. Two of them got down and allegedly threatened the worker with knives and a firearm and took him inside a cabin where two other employees -- Kamalakar and Sampath -- were present.

They snatched money from the cash bags of workers and sped away.

"All this happened while another employee, Chittibabu, was filling diesel in a lorry's fuel tank a few metres away. Neither the worker nor the lorry driver notice this," the Medchal Inspector, R. Sudarshan, said.

Succumbs to injuries

An iron scrap vendor, G. Mallesh (35), who was beaten up allegedly by a wine shop owner, Vinod, on July 31 night, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hosptial on Monday night. The Golconda police registered a murder case against Vinod based on the victim's dying declaration.

Dies in road accident

A housewife, Aruna (35), died on the spot while her husband, Laxminarsaiah (40), sustained injuries when a lorry knocked down the two-wheeler they were riding on the Khusaiguda-Meerpet road on Tuesday night.
