Kubendra Babu, Nirmala bag honours

NEW DELHI, AUG. 4. Dilli Kubendra Babu defeated two-time world champion R. M. Shankara 25-15, 25-1, 25-11 in the final of the eighth SAARC carrom championship at the Tivoli Gardens resort in Mehrauli.

The winner drove away a TVS Victor motorbike, while the women's champion P. Nirmala was presented a TVS Scooty.

The secretary general of the International carrom federation and Indian carrom federation, S.K. Sharma announced that India would set up a carrom academy. It was also announced that the fourth World carrom championship will be held in Sri Lanka from October 5.
