BIDAR, AUG. 4. Members of various self-help groups (SHG) attacked a jeep that was transporting liquor to some shops in their village and set fire to over 100 litres of alcohol at Morambi village in Bhalki taluk on Monday. According to eyewitnesses, over 150 women form various SHGs gathered when they heard that a jeep carrying liquor was entering their village. Guramma Nagashetty, president of the Akka Mahadevi SHG, and other members asked the driver and an employee of the Excise Department to leave the village as there was no authorised liquor shop there. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, S.R. Rathod; the Circle Inspector, K.C. Asundi; and the Excise Circle Inspector, S. Vithal, visited the spot. A case has been registered.
