HYDERABAD, AUG. 4. Alamatti water reached Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, bringing relief to the Government, irrigation engineers and farmers, especially in Krishna delta. The floods in the upper reaches of the Krishna were unabated following torrential rain in Maharahstra, the river's catchment. All gates of the Alamatti and Narayanapur dams were opened this morning.
Heavy discharge
According to the Engineer-in-Chief, Major Irrigation, T. S. Prakash Rao, the discharge from the Karnataka which was mere 11,000 cusecs three days ago and about 80,000 cusecs on Tuesday, had reached 1,15,000 cusecs by this afternoon. The Jurala project, the first entry of the river in Andhra Pradesh, was already in receipt of 30,000 cusecs. Mr. Rao said Srisailam would gain to the tune of 50 tmcft if the trend continued. Krishna delta may take a few days to benefit and for the present, it has to necessarily depend on the intermediary inflows.
