Award for Anju George

KOCHI, AUG. 4. Long jumper Anju Bobby George, India's big hope for a medal at the Athens Olympics, has been named for this year's Ernakulam Press Club's P.S. John Memorial Award. She is the first sportsperson to win the honour.

The annual award, which carries a citation and Rs.10,000 is given to Malayalees who excel in various fields and Anju, who won the long jump bronze at the World Athletics Championship in Paris last year, wins the honour this time.

Anju would receive the award after her return from Athens, said the Ernakulam Press Club president Shaji Jacob and secretary S. Harikrishnan, through a media release on Wednesday.
