KOCHI, AUG. 4. Even though the district witnessed heavy rains during most of the day, no major casualties have been reported from the city, while as many as 30 families had to rehabilitated in Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha taluks following heavy rain, said official sources here today. A relief camp has been opened at Kothamangalam UP school. Six houses were damaged in Muvattupuzha taluk alone. Control rooms have been opened at the Collectorate and taluk offices of Kanayannoor, Fort Kochi, Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha.
Three fishermen rescued
Three fishermen belonging to Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu were rescued by the Coast Guard as their boat capsized off Cherai coast this morning. The Coast Guard helicopter, Chetak ,airlifted one of the fishermen, Xavier (47). The other two fishermen, Wilson (42) and Francis (32) were not injured, said the Munambam police.
