Missouri bans gay marriage
Washington: America's religious Right claimed a key victory in the campaign to cast November's elections as a struggle over public morality on Wednesday after a battleground State voted for a constitutional ban on gay marriage. In a move seen as a barometer of public attitudes towards gay marriage, some 71 per cent of voters in the conservative State of Missouri supported amending the State's Constitution to ban same-sex unions. Opponents of gay marriage say they fear courts could force the recognition of unions conducted elsewhere. Others dismiss the bans as bigotry.
