Governor inaugurates blood bank

KURNOOL, AUG. 5. The Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, inaugurated the blood bank, sponsored by the Indian Red Cross Society, here on Thursday. The blood bank was set up at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs.

Mr. Barnala described the Red Cross activities as world-wide movement, which undertook not only the health promotion activities but played a critical role during disasters.

He said establishment of a full-fledged blood bank at Kurnool was very appropriate as the city was located on the national highway. Around 1,000 trucks passed on the road every day. The Kurnool MP, Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy, promised to provide an ambulance from his MPLADS funds to the IRCS local unit. The Minister, M. Mareppa, the MLA, M.A. Gafoor, the district secretary of IRCS, K.G. Govinda Reddy, the in-charge collector, Mukesh Kumar Meena and others were present.

Later the Governor inaugurated the Lepakshi Emporium and DWCRA bazar. The Major Industries Minister, Botsa Satyanarayana and others were present.
