TIRUPATI. Aug. 5. The Chittoor district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the decision of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government to hike power tariff by 8.34 paise per unit for all non-agricultural connections towards Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FAS). The district secretary of the BJP, K. Chandrababu, recalled that the Congress had opposed the collection of FSA and promised to withdraw the same if it came to power. It had also opposed the collection of Rs. 20 per metre during the TDP regime, stating that it was imposing an unnecessary burden on the consumers. But the Congress was now backtracking on its pre-poll stand, he said.
Hike decried
CUDDAPAH: The Communist Party of India(CPI) district secretary, G. Obulesu, decried the hike in power surcharge on consumers to recover Rs. 92 crores for offsetting the fuel surcharge burden. In a statement here, Mr. Obulesu wondered if Rs. 92 crores would burden the Government, which granted free power supply for agriculturists and waived power arrears amounting to Rs. 1,100 crores.
