TDP criticism irks Minister

GUNTUR, AUG. 5. The Minister for Cooperation, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, criticised the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders for their `mindless' criticism of the Congress for its alleged failure to meet the aspirations of the farmers. The Minister, who held meetings with the NABARD Chief Executive in Mumbai, told reporters here on Thursday that there was no assurance from the bank on refinancing the Cooperative Banks in the State for rescheduling of agriculture crop loans for the current season. The new credit policy of the State Government for agriculture lending at 5 per cent rate of interest was applicable only for new loans and was the best in the country, he said.

At the press conference, he called upon the TDP leaders to explain what was wrong with their policy of free power, which was being emulated by other States and other steps.
