Hyundai hikes car prices

CHENNAI, AUG. 6. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has announced a marginal price increase for all its cars across segments. The increase is essentially to reflect the incidence of Education Cess imposed by the recent budget, says a release from the company. Retail prices of Santro have gone up by Rs.2,257 and that of Accent by Rs. 4,889. The retail price increase for the luxury sedans Elantra and Sonata is in the range of Rs.10,129 and Rs.10,713, respectively.

The price increase comes into effect from Thursday, the release adds. HMIL, in the meantime, announced sales of 19,641 units for July 2004. This accounts for an increase of about 50 per cent over July 2003. While the domestic sale in July 2004 stood at 13,012 units, exports were placed at 6,629 units.

With this, HMIL recorded a cumulative sale of 110,997 units for the first seven months of the 2004, out of which cumulative domestic sales are 76,603 units and exports 34,394 units. Sales of the flagship Santro Xing rose by 66 per cent to 16,522 units over July 2003. Accent registered a sale of 2555 units. Elantra recorded sales of 522 units, Sonata 50 and the sports utility vehicle Terracan 57 units.
