BANGALORE, AUG. 6. Opener Shyam Ponnappa's unbeaten 112 guided KSCA XI to 189 for two against the CBCE-Australian Cricket Academy in a two-day match that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Friday. Ponnappa's knock anchored the host's innings after overnight rains and inclement weather continued to play havoc with the match schedule. A delayed start by one hour and afternoon rain often forced the groundstaff to scurry out with the covers. The lanky opener found an able ally in Bharat Chipli (33 retired hurt) and the duo kept the pressure on the visitor in the session before lunch. Chipli reacted late to left-arm seamer Doug Bollinger's short-pitched delivery, got struck near the shoulder and retired hurt. Brad Knowles and Bollinger castled S.N. Amit and Nidhuvan to garner hope for the visitor. However, Ponnappa stayed firm and in the company of skipper Vijay Bharadwaj, raced towards a well-deserved century. Ponnappa then celebrated in style as he hoisted rival skipper and left-arm spinner Adam Voges into the stands and then topped it with a deft cut past point.
