HYDERABAD, AUG. 6. The Planning Commission has, at the instance of the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, A. Narendra, included Medak district this year under the "Rashtriya Samvikas Yojana"and released Rs.45 crores as grants for taking up development works.

The districts of Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar and Chittoor are already covered by the scheme.

District plan

Mr. Narendra, who represents Medak constituency in the Lok Sabha, told reporters that the grants would be spent in three years at the rate of Rs.15 crores each. The Minister said he had already spoken to the Medak Collector to prepare a district plan and send it to the Planning Commission for approval. The grants are to be utilised by the local bodies only for undertaking rural development works.

Mr. Narendra recalled that he had written to the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Alhuwalia, on July 19 seeking inclusion of the district/constituency in the Rashtriya Samvikas Yojana scheme, and funds for his constituency. Mr. Alhuwalia had reacted to the letter by including Medak in the scheme. He had thanked the Deputy Chairman for the gesture.

Four-lane road

The 31-km work to be launched on August 26 would be completed in two years. Nine firms had participated in the tender process.
