BANGALORE, AUG. 7. Stopping on the outer Ring Road to answer nature's call proved costly for two car owners on Friday night. Around 11 p.m., a four-member gang armed with weapons threatened K.V. George, who had stopped his car near Karamachandnagar on Hennur Ring Road and robbed him of Rs. 1,000 in cash, a gold ring, a mobile phone, and a wristwatch. The robbers also drove away with his car, the police said. After driving some distance, the gang spotted Ramesh, who too had stopped his car. The robbers threatened Ramesh and drove away in his car after abandoning George's vehicle, the police said. The Hennur police have registered separate cases.
Pedestrians killed
Two pedestrians were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Friday night. Mohammed Basha (50) of Boopasandra was seriously injured when a vehicle hit him on Hebbal Ring Road around 8.30 p.m. He died on the way to hospital. The Hebbal traffic police are on the lookout for the vehicle and its driver. In the other incident, an unidentified man aged around 50 was killed on the spot when an autorickshaw hit him near the tollgate on Magadi Road around 10 p.m. The Magadi Road police have registered a case.
Five held
The Sriramapura police arrested five persons who were allegedly printing and selling the first year pre-university English textbook, "World View," in violation of Copyright Act. On a complaint by the Deputy Director, Pre-University Education Board, the police arrested Ramachandra (79), Parameshwara (21), Somashekar (48), Dwarakanath (32), and Gopalakrishna (29). The police seized from them printing material worth Rs. 1.35 lakhs. The accused were allegedly printing the books at a press at Agrahara Dasarahalli and selling them to bookstores at Sriramapura, the police said.
Sentenced
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, S.R. Sreenivas, sentenced two persons to one year imprisonment and fined them Rs. 1,000 each for cheating a woman of gold ornaments. Claiming themselves to be gold polishers, Jayakumar (22) of Ahmedabad and Pappu Singh (25) of Bihar had made away with the gold ornaments belonging to a resident of R.T. Nagar. The police had arrested the two and filed chargesheet against them in the court.
