NEW DELHI, AUG 7. The Congress MLA from Babarpur, Vinay Sharma, has become the first member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly to be conferred the honorary citizenship of the city of Baltimore, county of Los Angeles and the city of Garden Grove, California, United States. Mr. Sharma was on a 15-day tour of the United States under the Indo-US connectivity programme organised by the American Council of Young Political Leaders. Mr. Sharma was part of the seven-member young political leaders team that was selected from India and was the only elected member representing the Indian National Congress. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the business and political relationships of United States with emerging powers like India and to facilitate interaction of their young leaders with the US leadership. Giving an insight into his experiences, Mr. Sharma said the most profitable part of their visit was an interaction with the Secretary of State, Colin Powell and Deputy Secretary of State, R. Armitage. The delegation also held detailed interactions with the Governors of different States and officials of various Counties including some Senators. The delegation was also taken around various historical places that helped in better understanding of the history and culture of United States. Mr.Sharma said he was elated at the honour bestowed on him by the County of Los Angeles, Baltimore City, Maryland and Garden Grove, California. Among the prominent personalities who interacted with the visiting Indian delegation included Alex X Mooney, Senator, Maryland, Michael S. Steele, Lt. Governor, Annapolis, Maryland, Carol D Johnson, Mayor, City of District heights, Maryland, Danny Lee McDonald, president, American Council of Young Political Leaders and Ashok Parameswaran, international economist. Mr. Sharma termed his experience as highly useful and interactive and added that it has enabled the political business leadership of the two countries to grow closer. Other people who were part of the delegation included Ahmed Munnavvar, chairman, District Youth League Advisory Board, Indian Union Muslim League, Bobbeeta Sharma, spokesperson, Assam State Congress Party, Mohammad Jinnah, Deputy Secretary of the Student's Wing, DMK, Pritam Trimbak Rane, Councillor, Goa, RanjitSinh Vijay Singh Mohile Patil, Nationalist Congress Party Member in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Shobha Thomas Oza, president, Madhya Pradesh Women's Congress Wing.
