Man found murdered

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, AUG. 7. A 58-year-old man was found dead under highly mysterious circumstances in his house at Naraina in South-West Delhi today. The police suspect some business dispute behind the murder.

According to the police, the body of Gyan Prakash Batra, a resident of E-Block, Naraina, was spotted by the local washerman when he came to his house to collect clothes around 10 a.m. He raised an alarm following which the police were informed.

There were no apparent injury marks on Mr. Batra's body. However, the police suspect he might have been throttled or strangled to death. There were no signs of ransacking in the house and the available evidence at the crime scene did not suggest anything substantial missing from the house. The police, therefore, maintained that possibility of robbery being the motive behind the murder was negligible.

Earlier, Mr. Batra was last seen alive by his maid who had come to his house and left around 9 a.m. after completing the household chores. The police suspect that either the door might have been left open or the assailant managed to gain a friendly entry. Investigations further revealed that Mr. Batra earlier used to sell country medicine and for the past few years had been indulging in money lending. "He had lent money to several people and also kept some jewellery as security," said a police officer. The police, therefore, suspect that finance-related dispute might be the reason behind the incident.

While Mr. Batra's wife died a few years ago, his son is settled in the US. The police have informed his son about the incident. Mr. Batra's body has been preserved and a post-mortem would be conducted after his son arrives in the Capital.
