NALGONDA, AUG.7. Reportedly succumbing to political pressure from Congress MLAs, the State Government has kept in abeyance the transfer of 59 Sub Inspectors in the Home Minister, Jana Reddy's native district only five hours after giving the orders.
Takes charge
By the time the DG office sent a message to the district headquarters ordering the Superintendent of Police, N. Balasubramanayam, not to effect the transfers late last night, 58 SIs had already taken charge. On coming to know that the police officers did not consider their `recommendations' while effecting the transfers, several Congress MLAs met in Hyderabad on Saturday to evolve a course of action. Some of them even demanded transfer of the SP for failure to take them into his confidence during the crucial exercise.
SP's defence
The SP, on the other hand, while representing his case to his higher ups reportedly submitted that the SIs had been transferred on the basis of certain criteria and that he did not have any personal agenda in this regard. According to police sources, some of the MLAs wanted the SP to appoint the SIs of their own community in their constituencies irrespective of their performance and track record. One prominent MLA reportedly ordered the SP not to send any SI to a particular police station as `his man' would be appointed at a later stage. When contacted Mr. Balasubramanyam, was tight-lipped on the developments. "Performance is the main criteria in the exercise and my main aim is to strengthen policing to protect the interests of the common citizens,'' he maintained.
