High command to decide on Cabinet reshuffle: Thennala

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, AUG. 8. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, has said that the Congress will select its new ministers above all groups within the party, in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle.

Talking to reporters here today, the KPCC president said the party high command would decide whether to go for a Cabinet reconstitution or not in the State. He said the high command would hold discussions with the KPCC, if needed. However, no such discussions were held so far, he said.

Leadership change

Mr. Pillai said the high command would decide on the issue of leadership change in the State. He said the coalition partners had the authority to change their ministers or not, in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle. But being part of the Government, it was not proper on their part to criticise the Government, he said. The KPCC chief said that a weak organisational set up, destructive groupism and failure to reach the advantages of the Government to the people had led to the electoral debacle of the UDF in the Lok Sabha elections.

Organisational poll

He said the organisational elections in the Congress would be held before the Assembly election. Mr. Pillai said the vacancies in the Public Service Commission (PSC) as well as various boards would be filled without any delay.

The KPCC president was here to inaugurate a leadership meeting of the party's district unit. The DCC president, K. Sivadasan Nair, presided.

The KPCC vice-president, A.C. Jose, the general secretaries, Mullappally Ramachandran, Kodikkunnil Suresh and C.P. Muhammed, the former Union Minister, P.J. Kurien, K.K. Nair and Malethu Saraladevi, MLAs, were among those who addressed the meet.
