Krishna Madiga hits out at YSR

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, AUG. 8. The Mahajana Sangarshana Samithi (MSS) leader, Manda Krishna Madiga, alleged that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, has threatened him with `dire consequences' over the telephone for demanding free treatment to children suffering from heart ailments in the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday evening, Mr Krishna Madiga said "It is not behove of the Chief Minister to threaten me on telephone.'' "However, we are not scared of any threats," he added. "The former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, and the current Chief Minister, Rajashekhara Reddy, were travelling in the same boat," he said, adding that the former had tried the suppress the SC categorisation movement by using police force and the latter was threatening on telephone without using the police force.

Decries statement

Reacting to a query on the registration of cases by the police against Dalit leaders for organising a dharna with children suffering from heart ailments in Hyderabad, he said that the TDP Government had also threatened them, registered cases and charged them with politicising the SC categorisation issue.

Refuting the Chief Minister's statement that the 14-year-boy, Shoban, died of suffocation in Hyderabad, he asked why the other children who attended the meeting were not affected due to suffocation. He clarified that Shoban was suffering from heart ailment and he died after reaching the doctor. He asked the Chief Minister, who is also a doctor, whether he had ever raised the issue of children suffering from heart ailments during his 25-year-old political career.

BJP's plea

HYDERABAD: The BJP has asked the State Government to announce a special package for treatment of children suffering from cardiac ailments and create facilities in major hospitals for conducting heart surgeries.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the BJLP leader, G. Kishan Reddy, and State BJP secretary, G.R. Karunakar, said that only 2 to 3 per cent of such children were brought to the city on Saturday and wanted the Government to take steps for ensuring treatment for thousands of others. Besides developing infrastructure, they said that a package should be formulated involving private hospitals.
