HYDERABAD, AUG. 8. The former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Rajya Sabha member, K. Kasturirangan, on Sunday urged banks to be liberal in sanctioning education loans saying it would have a salutary effect on the number of students aiming for higher education. At the 16th triennial national conference of the Corporation Bank Officers Organisation (CBOO) here, Dr. Kasturirangan said a large number of students were unable to continue higher education due to fear that their parents would have a tough time repaying the loan.
`Sympathetic' interest
While liberalising and simplifying the process of sanctioning education loans, banks could also consider a `sympathetic' rate of interest and easy repayment, he observed.
To the delight of the audience, the space scientist said there was a parallel between the success enjoyed by Corporation Bank and the way country's space programme had taken off.
