NEW DELHI, AUG. 8. A 29-year-old man was gunned down and his 54-year-old father, a school principal, injured after two men allegedly opened fire inside the school premises at Noida in Uttar Pradesh today. The accused are still absconding. The incident occurred around 2-15 p.m. when a meeting of the Gandhi Smarak School management was on in its Noida Sector 22 premises. Eyewitnesses told the police that Aman Singh, husband of the pradhan of Chauran village, his friend, Khem Chand, and their accomplices came to the school to settle an old score with Jaswant Singh Tyagi, who had allegedly grabbed the school property by fraudulent means. Jaswant Singh and his son, Rajeev, were rushed to a hospital where the former was declared dead on arrival. Jaswant Singh was administered first-aid and referred to the Apollo Hospital. Police said the two parties had been fighting with each other over that property for the past 10 years and several criminal cases were registered against them. It is learnt that Jaswant Singh, who reportedly enjoys the patronage of a very "influential" Uttar Pradesh politician was recently sacked from the post of school principal but he managed to obtain a stay order from the High Court. The police said at least five criminal cases were registered against him and he was accused of having illegally occupied by the property on which school was built. The dispute led to frequent fights between the two parties and recently they were asked to furnish Rs. 50,000-bond per person promising not to indulge in violence in future. Meanwhile, a case of murder and attempt-to-murder has been registered and efforts are on to arrested the accused.
