Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, AUG. 9. The Congress Government had failed to come up with an effective policy to create jobs for the educated unemployed, the All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) has charged. The AIYF Pondicherry State council office bearers, K. Murugan and V Subbiah, claimed here on Sunday that because of the ban on recruitment, over 4,000 posts had lapsed. It was paradoxical that 1.51 lakh youths were waiting for jobs despite registering their names with local employment exchange, while the government continued to be lackadaisical about filling vacant posts. The system of appointing candidates on the basis of seniority in registration in the employment exchange should be adopted to tackle unemployment, they said. They called for a separate ministry to be set up to address the welfare of the youth and to promote sports activities among them. The federation also sought payment of unemployment allowance and asked that jobs be set aside for them in private sector undertakings.
