VIJAYAWADA, AUG. 9. A 72-year old woman, Dasari Indumathi, was murdered by some unidentified persons in her house at the Old Post Office Road of Panta Kaluva during the early hours of Monday. Though the actual motive or the identity of the alleged killers are yet to be established, investigating officials said the murder appeared to have been committed for gain. "We are also verifying if there are any family disputes or other angles to the murder," the Patamata Crime Sub-Inspector, M. Kishore Babu, told The Hindu.
Blunt weapon
Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the victim was fast asleep in the hall on the ground floor of their two-storied house when the alleged killers entered the house and smashed her head with a blunt weapon. The victim appeared to have died on the spot. After the committing the offence, the intruders reportedly snatched about 15 tolas of gold ornaments from her possession.
Ransacked
Thereafter the killers are said to have entered the adjacent bedroom where one of the victim's daughter, Renuka, was sleeping and ransacked the alimarahs. But they left the place without harming Renuka or looting any jewelery from her, the SI said. The killers also did not harm the deceased woman's son who was staying with his family on the first floor.
