VUDA chief comes up with wish list

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, AUG. 9. The VGTM-UDA Chairman, Malladi Vishnu, has urged the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to extend the Government's assistance in taking up construction of a flyover between the Indrakeeladri Hill and the National Highway No. 5 to reduce traffic congestion on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route.

Tunnels under Highway

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister during his visit to the city on Monday, Mr. Vishnu also wanted the Government to consider the proposals of the urban development authority for construction of two tunnels under the national highway, in front of the Pandit Nehru Bus Station, to ease traffic congestion due to the inward and outward movement of buses from the bus station.

While buses towards Hyderabad and Guntur emerge out of the bus station from the right side, those coming from Machilipatnam, Eluru and other places enter it from the same point leading to traffic congestion on the busy road. There was also a need for construction of a bridge across river Krishna somewhere between Ibrahimpatnam and Vijayawada to relieve the pressure on the traffic in Vijayawada by diverting the Guntur-bound vehicles to NH 5.
